From Jul 31st to Aug 6th 1969, in Bourg StMaurice, (FRA), on Ysere river, the eleventh slalom worlds and the sixth downriver worlds took place. Vittorio Visconti, the memorable president of Canoa Club Milano, was a passionate paddler, and also an expert film-maker. He used to travel everywhere to film all the most important canoeing events, with a very expensive equipment at that time. Vittorio left us an incredibly valuable film archive for our sport, not only for the exceptional quality of the footage (this film is in 16mm format, 18 frames per second) but also for his incredible filming skills. WildWater TV Italia, in collaboration with Canoa Club Milano, carried out digitalization, editing and broadcasting of this fantastic footage, in order to share and live again the glorious past of canoeing sports.

The slalom worlds winners were:

K1: Peschier (FRA), K1W: Polesna (CZE), C1: Peters (FRG), C2: Olry-Olry (FRA), C2Mixed: Svoboda-Traplova (CZE)

The downriver worlds winners were:

K1: Burny (BEL), K1W: Polesna (CZE), C1: Boudehen (FRA), C2: Feuillette-Chapuis (FRA), C2Mixed: Spitz-Ramelov (AUT)

Some curiosities. The course had 30-gates, the longest to date, and the start of a number of courses of this length. Ludmilla Polesna's gold of 1969 was the fourth and the latest of her career. The East Germans withdrawed in protest over the way the name of their country was being displayed. The classic race venue was 20 Kms long, from Bourg to Centron. At the end of the video, the ICF flag is handed over to the Italian team for the following Merano 1971 world championships.
